The
9th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference
The 9th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference in Malmö,
Sweden , September 4-5 2000 called on the governments to strengthen
cooperation in the fields of education, research and energy;
and to facilitate the cross-border cooperation by consolidating
Trans-European Network. On the agenda was also developing
the relations with EU and enhancing the policies of Northern
Dimension. On the humanitarian and environmental field the
focus was on sustainable development, human rights and safety
of sea routes.
The
8th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference
The 8th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference in Mariehamn,
Finland, September 7-8 1999 called on the governments to reduce
all kind of emission in the Baltic Sea and in the countries
around it. The conference also paid attention to cooperation
in the energy market. Stress was laid on assisting the EU
applicant countries in harmonising their policies with EU
policy. The contacts between employers and employees should
be enhanced to improve welfare and living conditions.
The
7th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference
The 7th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference in Lübeck,
Germany, September 7-8 1998 decided to support EU enlargement.
Due to this there is necessity to promote political, economical
and cultural links with all Baltic Sea States in governmental
and non-governmental levels. The conference called on the
governments to support democratic reforms in Central and Eastern
European countries and assist them in parliamentary decision
making process.
The
6th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference
The 6th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference in Gdansk, Poland,
September 15-16 1997agreed to call on to urge the governments
to develop the co-operative structures in the region to promote
security and stability and to fight the organised crime. The
conference also paid attention to guaranteeing the minority
rights in the Baltic Sea countries and to create favourable
conditions for their integration into society.
The
5th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference
The 5th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference in Riga, Latvia,
September 10-11 1996 agreed to further regional economic and
environmental cooperation in environment protection and sustainable
economic growth and development. As a mean for this the conference
agreed to facilitate the free movement of persons, goods,
services and capital amongst the countries. In the field of
environment the subjects of concern were emissions and discharges
of hazardous waste in the Baltic Sea.
The
4th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference
The 4th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference in Roenne, Denmark
September 12-13 1995 called on the governments to improve
the transportation infrastructure in the region in air, sea
and land traffic, as well as electronic communication networks;
and prepare step by step a full-fledged free trade area in
the region. Also the national development plans should be
conducive to sustainable economic growth and development schemes.
The
3rd Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference
The 3rd Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference in Warsaw, Poland,
May 5-6 1994 agreed to have the focus in the field of environment
policy and legislation. The conference called on the governments
to promote programmes directed to establish effective and
compatible system of environmental laws and also promote exchange
programmes concerning culture, education and scientific research.
The conference decided to promote establishment of an European
Ecological Fund in order to save the Baltic Sea.
The
2nd Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference
The 2nd Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference in Oslo, Norway,
April 22-24 1992 agreed to accord highest priority to cooperation
programmes in the areas of environment, including nuclear
safety, economy and trade, scientific research and technology,
energy, infrastructure, culture, education, and the development
of democratic institutions. The conference called on the governments
to promote stable democratic development in the emerging democracies
in the region.
The
1st Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference
The 1st Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference in Helsinki,
Finland, January 7-9 1991 discussed the economic reforms and
the transition to market economy in the former countries with
planned economy. Great concern was expressed in the environmental
problems in the Baltic Sea. The conference called on cooperation
in the cultural and educational fields as a base for common
understanding among the peoples of the area. The conference
supported establishment of a Baltic Sea Council for planning
cooperation in economic and cultural affairs and in sustainable
development.
