The Working Group
was established in January 2006 based on the decision of the BSPC
Standing Committee.
The Working group was given the mandate to raise political and
public awareness about the urgent problems of eutrophication in the
Baltic Sea caused by the excessive outlets of Nitrogen and
Phosphorous from all the countries around the Baltic Sea.
The Working Group has developed 25 recommendations directed towards
the CBSS, the HELCOM and the governments of the Baltic Sea states in
order to mitigate the current situation. The recommendations were
adopted by the 16th BSPC in Berlin 27-28 August 2007.
