Brains Trust to put Baltic Sea Region on international map

Ene Ergma, speaker of the Estonian parliament, is one of several people to propose the creation of a common research space for the Baltic Sea countries, which could include a Baltic Sea Technology Institute dedicated to the study of information-, bio- and nanotechnology, for example. Ergma presented the idea to an international conference in Tallinn in early March, which focused on research, development and regional partnerships within the framework of the European Union’s Baltic Sea Strategy.
Children have the right to culture at school

Children and young people in the entire Nordic Region will now have cultural and creative subjects at school. At least if it is up to the Nordic Council, which is calling for the ministers of culture and education to sign a Nordic declaration on the rights of children to cultural expression, The proposal from the Nordic Council Culture and Education Committee has received political support from all five countries.
New Nordplus exchange opportunities

Applications are now invited for Nordplus, the joint Nordic/Baltic exchange and education programme. The Nordplus Framework Programme 2009 has a total budget of DKK 60 million (approx. €8 million). A total of up to 10,000 people take part in the various Nordplus programmes every year. The focus in 2009 is on climate and the environment.
