The role of the Nordic countries in reducing Short-lived Climate Forcers, SLCF

Conference: Use and management of the Nordic seas today and tomorrow

The Nordic House, Tórshavn, the Faroe Islands, 15. – 16 November 2011: The Nordic Council of Ministers' Aquatic Ecosystem Group (AEG) hosts a workshop of the future with the aim to develop a common vision for the use and management of the Nordic seas. Deadline for registration is Friday 28 October 2011.
Nordic Climate Day

Nordic Climate Day is being organised for the third time on 11/11/2011. This year the theme is food and the climate. The aim of the Climate Day is to encourage pupils and teachers to have discussions on the climate through a theme day consisting of different climate-related assignments and competitions. The Green Nordic Region – an equal partner

This fringe event will discuss the relationship between gender, equality and climate change through a panel discussion. The aim is to make delegates aware that women and men are affected by, and affect, the climate in different ways by their behaviour. In addition, this event will launch and provide information about the new Nordic knowledge platform ("Equal Climate - Gender and Climate Change from a Nordic Perspective") on gender equality and climate change.
Local Action on Climate Change - Canadian and Nordic Networking

NESS 2011: Power Landscapes - Histories and Futures

Conference with focus on safety at sea

Climate change will mean increased shipping in North Atlantic waters. The opening of northern sea routes and increased traffic from cruise ships offers a promising potential for economic development. The North Atlantic region cannot ignore the significant challenges that these developments will present for emergency management of safety at sea. It places demands on stronger regional and international co-operation.
Restoring the North - International conference on restoration of damaged ecosystems in northern regions

ReNo is a Nordic multidisciplinary network of scientists, practitioners, policy makers and entrepreneurs working with ecological restoration. The network is funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers and is one of four theme projects initiated by the Icelandic Ministry of Environment for 2009, when Iceland is leading the NCM. All the Nordic countries participate in the project. ReNo is organising an international conference, Restoring the North, in May 2011. There we will explore restoration in northern areas and participate in exchange of experiences between science, policy and praxis.
Green Growth in the Baltic Sea Region

Nordic Council of Ministers/EU-seminar: "An Arctic Agenda"

Nordic Green Building Councils Conference 2011

The 200 delegates will discuss policies and markets for green buildings and adaptation of environmental building tools in the Nordic countries. In addition to interesting discussions, this event will be an excellent platform for meeting colleagues from the Nordic countries.

Fighting against climate change is the main theme of Finland's Programme for the Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2011. Jan Vapaavuori, Finnish Minister for Nordic Co-operation, discusses Finland's goals for Nordic co-operation next year. Jukka Pertola, CEO of Siemens in Denmark, assesses the role of the Nordic Region and the opportunities in a global perspective. Jan-Erik Enestam, Secretary General of the Nordic Council, will also take part in the seminar on 20 January in the Nordic Council of Ministers/Nordic Council in Copenhagen.

Nordic conference on climate adaptation in Stockholm

An international conference on climate adaptation will be held in Stockholm 8 - 10 November 2010: Climate Adaptation in the Nordic Countries: Science, Practice, Policy. The conference is aimed at scientists, planners and policymakers interested in climate risk, vulnerability and adaptation in a Nordic setting. The purpose is to stimulate discussion and exchange ideas in the meeting between science, practice, and policy.
