One of the greatest challenges in the energy field at the moment is to develop technology to make effective use of renewable energy sources. The aim is to make us less dependent on fossil fuels and to reduce our emissions of climate gases.
All the Nordic countries give high priority to renewable energy. Even though the countries all have different backgrounds by nature, there is a basis for co-operation to develop new knowledge and new technologies in the majority of areas.
At Nordic level there is co-operation in research, but also in business aspects such as strengthening networks and innovation for the development of technologies for export.
The Nordic Council of Ministers' Working Group for Renewable Energy is charged with helping and supporting the work with renewable energy in the Nordic countries by exchanging information and starting up joint projects between the countries. The group will market the Nordic countries' technology and knowledge on renewable energy to neighbouring countries, the EU and internationally.
