The Nordic House, Tórshavn, the Faroe Islands, 15. – 16 November 2011: The Nordic Council of Ministers' Aquatic Ecosystem Group (AEG) hosts a workshop of the future with the aim to develop a common vision for the use and management of the Nordic seas. Globally, aquaculture has been the fastest growing food production sector over the past two decades. In contrast to the world trend, production in the EU – and especially the Baltic Sea region – has stagnated or even declined slightly during the 2000s. The goal of this conference is to provide a forum for authorities, aquaculture industry, researchers and other stakeholders for discussing the opportunities and challenges for aquaculture in Northern Europe.

The seminar will present focussed discussions around the themes Environment, Economy and Innovation and Civil Society. The background for the seminar lies in two previous conferences on the Arctic hosted by the Nordic Council of Ministers: "Common Concern for the Arctic" and "Arctic - Changing Realities".

A conference will be held in Tórshavn from 7 - 8 September 2010 on the pelagic complex "Challenges and possibilities in the pelagic sector - Looking towards the future". The aim of the conference is to discuss possible allocation of shared stocks of herring, mackerel, capelin and blue whiting which are found over much of the Northeast Atlantic.

Changing Seas - Workshop on effects of climate change on marine ecosystems

To mark the publication of the Nordic Statistical Yearbook 2009, the Nordic Council of Ministers invites you to a brunch meeting in Store Strandstræde 18, 1255 Copenhagen K.
Former Ministry of Economic Affairs and Minister for Nordic Co-operation, Marianne Jelved from the Social-Liberal Party, will take part in the meeting and comment on the latest figures from a Danish perspective with special focus on the Nordic Council of Ministers' strategy for sustainable development.
Journalist Trine Sick, former employee of DR television, will host the event.
Ulla Agerskov from Statistics Denmark, editor of the yearbook, will also take part in the meeting.

The conference 'Efficient Fisheries Management' will be organised on 27-28 August 2009.
Nordic fisheries are still exposed to changes in environmental and economic conditions. The theme of the conference is the ability of fisheries management systems in the Nordic countries to adapt to changes.
The conference will be hosted by the Institute of Economic Studies, University of Iceland in collaboration with the Icelandic Presidency in the Nordic Council of Ministers, and the Icelandic Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture.
