The Nordic Ministers for the Environment have adopted a new vision for the Nordic Ecolabel, which will also brand the Nordic region abroad in the future. At the same time, funding has been increased for the Nordic Council of Ministers' work on ecolabelling. Global mercury emissions can be halved

There is a huge but untapped potential for reducing global emissions of mercury. Mercury emissions can be more than halved by 2020 with the help of modern technology, according to a recent report funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Danish Environmental Protection Agency. The report was presented at a packed seminar on Tuesday during the UN mercury conference in Stockholm.

Nordic Food at the world's largest organic trade fair

Nordic cuisine is creating an image for itself at the world's largest organic trade fair, Biofach, in Nürnberg, Germany. The Nordic Council of Ministers is co-financing a major Nordic joint venture at BioFach 2010 from 17-20 February. The aim is to give visitors an experience of Nordic food, but also to make contacts and promote exports of the Nordic cuisine.
Ozone damage costs forestry and agriculture millions

Ozone damage inhibits forest growth in the Nordic Region by up to 10%, causing significant financial losses in the forestry sector. The harmful gas also has a negative impact on crop yields in agriculture, according to a recent Nordic-Baltic report commissioned by the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.

According to the ministers there has been a similar trend in the lending practices of international financial institutions.
