An overview of the Nordic Council of Ministers' working groups.
Advisory Group for Nordic Co-operation on Adult Education (SVL)
Life-long learning is the guiding principle for Nordic co-operation in adult education. The advisory group emphasises active dialogue with a broad spectrum of participants in this area.
Advisory Group for the Nordic School Co-operation (NSS)
The Advisory Group covers pre-school activities, basic schools and upper secondary and vocational training schools.
BAT Group (Best Available Technique) in the environment area
The BAT Group is a sub-group of the Working Group for Sustainable Consumption and Production HKP. The BAT group works to promote knowledge of effective and sustainable production as a prerequisite for a sustainable society. Nordic co-operation on BAT serves two purposes: 1) To prepare information on BAT and cleaner technology for industries with many Nordic and especially small and medium-sized companies. 2) To put a Nordic fingerprint on the EU's work with the development of BREF documents.
Climate and Air Quality Group (KoL)
The Climate and Air Quality Group contributes to Nordic goals of limiting serious climate change and of preventing air pollution from damaging the environment or human health.
Co-ordinating Committee for Nordic Studies Abroad
The Co-ordinating Committee for Nordic Studies Abroad works to promote language teaching in the Nordic countries, in Nordic culture and social conditions as well as to increase interest for the Nordic countries in foreign universities and in society in general. The Committee, a body under the Nordic Council of Ministers, gives an economic contribution to joint Nordic events initiated by teachers at the institutions.
EU Information Group
The main task of the Nordic-Baltic-Polish EU Information Group is to follow the work of the EU in the field of labour market policy, labour law and working environment.
Industrial Relations Committee
The committee, amongst other things, exchanges information and experiences within the Nordic countries in the area of industrial relations. In addition, it starts up projects which involve industrial relations, and regularly evaluates and follows up on on-going projects.
Nordic Chemical Group (NKG)
The Nordic Chemical Group's work supports a chemical policy whose overarching goal is sustainable development based on high-level health and environmental protection for both the present and future generations.
Nordic Co-operation Board of Natural Sciences, (NOS-N)
Nordic Co-operation Board of Natural Sciences is a co-operation of the Nordic research councils that finance scientific research.
Nordic Committee on Food Analysis (NMKL)
The committee compiles methods of analysis and guidelines and organises training courses within the field of food analysis. The committee also acts as a network for Nordic food analysts.
Nordic Economic Group
The Economics Group was originally established outside the formal governmental co-operation, but has been managed under the auspices Nordic Council of Ministers for Finance (MR-Finans) since 2004. The Working Group consists of representatives from the Nordic ministries of finance and exchanges information about the development of market trends and the economic situation in the Nordic countries. Before each autumn meeting of MR-Finans the Group prepares the market trend report 'Economic outlook in the Nordic countries'.
Nordic Network for Adult Learning (NVL)
This network works to draw attention to competencies and experience through adult learning in the Nordic countries
Nordic Taxation Authorities Group
The group is responsible for the Nordic Tax Portal, which contains information for citizens on tax conditions in the Nordic countries.
Nordic Waste Group (NWG)
The Nordic Waste Group works towards sustainable processing of waste products in the Nordic countries and Europe. An important element in this work is a joint Nordic contribution to EU legislation. Another focus area is the adaptation of EU legislation to the specific conditions applicable in the Nordic region.
Nordic Working Group for Diet, Food & Toxicology (NKMT)
The working group is responsible for the implementation of "The Nordic action plan for improved health and quality of life through food and physical activity".
Nordic Working Group for Food Safety & Consumer Information (NMF)
The working group is responsible for activities within legislation, inspection and control, labelling of food and consumer information.
The Electricity Market Group
Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark have had a common electricity market for some time and are a good example of how European countries can liberalise electricity markets across country borders. Nevertheless, there are still opportunities to improve the general conditions for the Nordic electricity market.
The Expert Group Nordic Language Council (ENS)
The Expert Group Nordic Language Council focuses on consultancy, especially in regard to an improved language understanding for children and young people.
The Labour Market Committee
The committee aims to strengthen and further develop Nordic co-operation within employment policies, labour market policies in general and labour market research.
