Conference on Gender Equality in the West Nordic region, Greenland

What is the future of the Nordic development aid model?

The Nordic Council of Ministers is pleased to invite to a conference on Nordic traditions in development aid and aid assessment in Oslo. The main theme of the seminar is as follows: Is the Office of the Auditor General the 'solution' to the lack of verifiable results? What opportunities will the new trend towards quantification and 'randomisation' which is gaining ground in the donor countries lead to? In an industry where old wine is often served in new bottles - what challenges are the historians of development facing in the different Nordic countries?
What is the cost of poverty?

2010 has been chosen as the European year for the fight against poverty and social exclusion. During the theme year a seminar will raise the question of Nordic social progress, the welfare system and the common future. What has happened and what will happen with Nordic welfare? Has the welfare project been unsuccessful? How do you measure and define poverty? Is there poverty in the Nordic Region? Is there the will, resources and adequate solution models to fight Nordic poverty?

Nordic Statistical Yearbook 2009

To mark the publication of the Nordic Statistical Yearbook 2009, the Nordic Council of Ministers invites you to a brunch meeting in Store Strandstræde 18, 1255 Copenhagen K. Former Ministry of Economic Affairs and Minister for Nordic Co-operation, Marianne Jelved from the Social-Liberal Party, will take part in the meeting and comment on the latest figures from a Danish perspective with special focus on the Nordic Council of Ministers' strategy for sustainable development. Journalist Trine Sick, former employee of DR television, will host the event. Ulla Agerskov from Statistics Denmark, editor of the yearbook, will also take part in the meeting. 15 young Nordic photographers have interpreted the Nordic welfare model. Is it under pressure? Being phased-out? Or is it perhaps the solution in a time of chaos? "Sort of Safe" is published by Ajour and the many fantastic photographic essays on the welfare state in Denmark, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden can be seen in the Nordic Council of Ministers' Gallery until 16 October. The exhibition will be opened by Steen K. Rasmussen, head of the Nordic Journalist Centre. Senior lecturer in Nordic politics, Lars Hovbakke Sørensen, will talk about the sensational aspect of the Nordic social model, which he has described in an article in "Sort of Safe". The photographers, Hanne Hvattum from Norway and Stine Larsen from Denmark, will also attend the opening of the exhibition and talk about their photos.
