Demography

More boys than girls are born each year in the Nordic region – approximately 105 boys per 100 girls. However, because of a higher death rate among men, and longer life expectancy among women, this ratio evens out eventually. Women outnumber men among those older than 60 years. At the same time women report illnesses and health problems more frequently during their lifetime than men. In the past 20 years, there has been a reduction in the gender gap in life expectancy in all the Nordic countries
