Gender equality in education is fundamental to promoting gender equality at large and inequality in the education sector is both a cause and a consequence of broader forms of gender inequality in society. While there is equality in access to education in all Nordic countries, there are still significant differences in learning outcomes for boys and girls and women and men. In all the Nordic countries, boys are at higher risk than girls of dropping out of school. As regards higher education, women account for the majority of graduates at tertiary level and subsequently there is an increasing gender gap in higher education
