Financial resources - income

In the Nordic countries there are still gaps in the financial resources and economic situation among women and men. It is an important domain of gender equality given that women are generally disadvantaged financially, exposing women to greater risks of social exclusion. A gender segregated labour market, the challenges of balancing work and family life, the undervaluation of traditionally female occupations are some of the complex causes of the persistent difference in financial resource distribution between men and women. The impact of the gender pay gap means that women earn less over their lifetimes; this results in lower pensions and a higher risk of poverty at old age. Ensuring that the work done by women and men is valued fairly is essential to achieving gender equality
