Working at the Nordic Council of Ministers' Secretariat
The Nordic Council of Ministers' Secretariat is in Copenhagen and employs almost one hundred people from the whole Nordic Region.
The Nordic Council of Ministers is the Nordic governments' co-operation forum. Co-operation in the Nordic Council of Ministers takes place between the governments of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden and the home rule governments of the three autonomous territories the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Åland. The Nordic Council of Ministers comprises 11 councils of ministers today. The parliamentarians in the Nordic countries co-operate in the Nordic Council.
As an employee of the Nordic Council of Ministers' Secretariat your workplace will be in Copenhagen, where the secretariats for the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Nordic Council and the Nordic Culture Fund have their offices. The three secretariats employ a total of about 120 members of staff.
Many meetings often take place, however, in the other Nordic countries, and as the Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers rotates between the countries, a number of the meetings follow the country holding the Presidency. You must therefore calculate on a certain amount of travel as an employee in the Nordic Council of Ministers.
The employees in the Nordic Council of Ministers come from all the Nordic countries, and so it is important that new members of staff become well integrated. For this reason there are many social activities for all employees. These activities are mainly attended by the employees themselves, but are supported by the organisations.
The staff has its own association which organises these activities. This is a joint association for employees at the secretariats of the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Nordic Council and the Nordic Culture Fund. The activities cover culture, food, sport and music. These activities form the core of the integration of new members of staff who often arrive here without a social network.
Professional induction to the job will be given by our experienced members of staff. As a new employee at the secretariat of the Nordic Council of Ministers you will have one colleague acting as a buddy at the beginning.
