Moving between the Nordic countries

Information for those who are thinking about moving to another Nordic country or between the Nordic countries.

If you are going to move to another Nordic country to work there are a number of practical questions you will need to make decisions about.

If you take up employment with the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Nordic Council, the Nordic Culture Fund or one of our many institutions, you will receive both financial and practical help with the move. However, there may be questions which arise, such as, for example, whether to take your family with you.

When moving between the Nordic countries there is a lot of help available on www.norden.org under Nordic Resources.

Here you will find simple and clear information on four areas:

  • moving
  • working
  • studying
  • travel

You can also write to the information service Hello Norden and get an answer to specific questions which you cannot find on the website.

If you have questions related to taxation in the Nordic countries you can get help on www.nordisketax.net

There is also a Nordic social security portal which gives guidance on which country's legislation applies in different situations.

The information service Øresund Direkt helps those moving or commuting in the Øresund region.
