Lund University in Sweden was host when about a hundred scientists and decision-makers met to discuss research strategies and future research co-operation. CAS-Nordic Forum 2007 is a follow-up to the first CAS-Nordic Forum which was organized in Beijing in April 2006 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
The General Secretary of the Nordic Council of Ministers, Halldór Ásgrímsson, made a speech to the assembled group. The General Secretary paid great attention to the Chinese-Nordic exchange between the universities in his speech. The Nordic Centre Fudan i Shanghai was mentioned as a successful co-operation between the University of Fudan and more than twenty universities in Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Iceland.
The General Secretary also stressed that it was important for the Nordic countries to continue their successful work concentrating their efforts on research and innovation and becoming an important player in the international arena.
Halldór Ásgrímsson also referred to the objectives towards which the Nordic Council of Ministers and its institutions are working energetically to meet the challenges of globalization. The Nordic Prime Ministers took a positive attitude to this work at a summer meeting in June 2007. The work to meet the challenges of globalization includes not least the establishment of Nordic innovation centres in Asia.
