Climate Change in the Classroom – a role playing game for Nordic school children

At the UN climate summit in South Africa in December 2011, the world's leaders will meet to find a solution for the challenges to our climate. The Nordic Council of Ministers is funding the project “Climate Change in the Classroom”, where school children will role play as delegates at the climate conference in Durban 2011.

The project “Climate Change in the Classroom” is a role playing game for 9th grade or upper secondary pupils which has been developed by the National Resource Center for Physics at the University of Lund in Sweden, UNI•C in Denmark, and the Council of Technology in Norway. The idea is that the pupils will play the role of delegates during the climate summit and the teacher will be the Secretary General.

The game has been translated into Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Icelandic and English. The class can also participate in "bilateral negotiations" online with another class from, e.g., another Nordic country. Every class that registers its results and recommendations before 20 November 2011 will have a chance to win DKK 5,000 for the class.

The Nordic Council of Ministers for Education and Research are funding the project “Climate Change in the Classroom 2011” as part of its work for sustainable development in 2011. The game will also contribute to promote Nordic co-operation, community and language understanding.
