Co-operation Akureyri - Flensburg
Iceland in art, literature and music - this is the recipe for co-operation between the two Nordic information offices in Akureyri in Iceland and Flensburg in Germany. The project starts off in the North Atlantic House in Copenhagen and all the activities are well supported by the Nordic Cultural Fund. The Icelandic author, Einar Kárason, and Icelandic musicians will perform in Copenhagen, Horsens, Kiel and Flensburg.
“We have as many as 130 people registered for our theme day in Flensburg”, said a clearly delighted Anette Jensen, manager of the Information Office in Flensburg. She describes an excellent programme for this theme day which focuses on the fact that Icelandic literature has always inspired others, and that music and painting have also always been a great source of inspiration.
“Just think of the sagas, which even today provide inspiration to modern authors”, said Jensen.
“On 12 November we will offer a small taste of this North Atlantic culture in Flensburg. Artists Jónína Gudnadóttir and Jón Thor Gíslason will exhibit their work at the Danish Central Library and author and priest Johannes Møllehave will read from Icelandic sagas. Møllehave has often expressed great admiration for Iceland and often stays in the country".
In the evening there will be an opportunity to hear author Einar Kárason in Flensborghus. His novels are almost all translated into Danish and his latest novel, ‘Storm’, was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize this year. Einar Kárason will read from his books and be accompanied by the Icelandic band ‘Park Project’ made up of four musicians: Pálmi Gunnarsson (singer and bass player), Kristján Edelstein (guitarist and composer), Agnar Már Magnússon (piano) and Benedikt Brynleifsson (drums).
The musicians are well known faces in the Icelandic music world and have released several CDs.
“Allow me to thank the Nordic Cultural Fund, the Rislum Fund, the Letterstedtska Society, the Danish-Icelandic Foundation, GB Bank, Christian Larsen and Wife Memorial Bequest, Guardsman Christian Lassens Memorial Fund, Flensborg City and the organisers in the various towns”, says Anette Jensen.
