Danish-Icelandic cultural exchange
The project 'Artistic Exchange between Iceland and Denmark' organised by the Nordic information offices in Flensburg and Akureyri draws to a close next week. The purpose of the project is to present Icelandic literature, art and music in Denmark and Danish authors and musicians in Iceland.
The project has been co-funded by the Nordic Cultural Fund, the Letterstedt Society and the Foundation for Danish-Icelandic Co-operation.
On 19 March, Anette Jensen of the Information Office in Flensburg will leave on a tour with the author Johannes Møllehave and Valdemar Rasmussen's jazz trio. They will appear in Nordic House Reykjavik 20 March, at Skriduklauster in Egilstadir 21 March and will round off their tour in Akureyri on Nordic Day, 23 March, where Johannes Møllehave will speak about humour. In East Iceland Møllehave will talk about Hans Christian Andersen and in Reykjavik about Danish lyricism. The trio will perform jazzed up Danish lyrical songs and psalms.
The exchange and touring activities started in November last year when María Jónsdóttir, the manager of the Information Office in Akureyri, visited North Atlantic Quay in Copenhagen along with the author Einar Kárason and the band Park Project. They went on to perform in Horsens and in Flensburg, where an Icelandic art exhibition was also staged featuring works by Jónina Gudnadóttir and Jón Thór Gislason.
Anette Jensen says that the events in Denmark and Flensburg were very successful and popular. "We are really looking forward to returning the compliment and presenting Danish literature and music in Iceland," as she put it.
