Foreign policy seminar in Greenland
A seminar for politicians and civil servants involved in foriegn policy issues is being held in Greenland on 20 February. Halldór Ásgrímsson, Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers, will speak about the role of the Nordic Council of Ministers in relation to the Arctic Region.
"The Nordic Council of Ministers will do its best to keep the Arctic high up the international agenda. On several occasions – most recently during the Northern Conference in Hanaasari, Finland, last month – the Council of Ministers has openly stated that we would be prepared to co-organise a conference to follow up on the one held in Greenland in 2002 during the Danish EU Presidency. We hope that other regional Councils – including the EU – will get involved in organising such an event on Greenland," the Secretary General said.
Ambassadør Harri Maki-Reinikka of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs will speak about Nordic co-operation and the EU's Northern Dimension. Finland holds the Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers 2007. Gunnar Westerholm, member of the Nordic Committee for Co-operation from Åland, will speak about Åland's foreign policy. Josef Motzfeldt, Minister of Finance and Foreign Affairs will talk about Greenland's foriegn-policy priorities.
