Greenland's Minister for Social Affairs, Maliina Abelsen, will open the conference as the keynote speaker. Abelsen will talk about gender equality in the West Nordic region with particular focus on Greenland. After that there will be speakers from the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Iceland addressing violence against women, women and welfare in the West Nordic region and jobs, marriage and gender relations.

Gender mainstreaming is also on the programme. Kira Appel from the Nordic Council of Ministers' Committee of Senior Officials for Gender Equality will present the central strategies and tools for gender mainstreaming which have helped to promote gender equality in the Nordic countries.

Iceland put the topic of gender equality in the West Nordic region on the agenda during its Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2009. The Danish Presidency has chosen to continue to focus on this subject in 2010.

The aim of the seminar is to create consensus and networks in areas where a closer co-operation between the West Nordic countries can promote gender equality in the West Nordic region.
