Kaliningrad conference on social integration
The Nordic Council of Ministers" Office in Kaliningrad has got off to a good start. It organised a conference on the social integration of disabled children on 30 November. The conference was held in I. Kant"s Russian State University and co-hosted by the university, the regional government and the NGO organisation "Maria".
The key note speakers at the conference included Marianne Smedegaard, Project Manager at Nordic Cooperation on Disability (NSH) and Arne Grove, Director of the Nordic Council of Ministers" new office in Kaliningrad.
Lena Birch Christiansen, head of a boarding school for disabled children in Denmark, talked about the excellent co-operation they had with a similar school in the village of Krylovo in the Kaliningrad region.
In conjunction with the conference a group of young disabled people put on a theatrical performance and there was photo exhibition from the NGO organisation "Maria"
The Nordic Council of Ministers now has two offices in towns on the Baltic Sea. It opened its office in St. Petersburg in 1995 and officially opened the Kaliningrad office at a seminar there on 14 September.
