Launching the Nordic Built Cities Challenge

06.03.15 | News
Is your city in the early stages of planning a challenging urban development project connected to an urban space? Are you looking for multidisciplinary, innovative solutions? Through the Nordic Built Cities Challenge we offer you a unique opportunity to get access to the best solutions.

Nordic Innovation , working under the auspices of the Nordic Council of Ministers,  is launching the Nordic Built Cities Challenge, an open, needs-driven competition to develop and visualise Nordic innovative solutions for smart, liveable and sustainable cities. The competition is carried out from March 2015 to September 2016.

We are looking for urban challenges from all the Nordic countries, including Greenland, Faroe Islands and Åland Islands. A Nordic jury will recommend up to eight (8) urban development projects and Nordic Innovation will make the final decision of which projects that then become the foundation the Nordic Built Cities Challenge.

Each selected project will host its own local competition – and in September 2015 we will open up for the building sector and related sectors to submit their innovative solutions to the selected urban challenges. The solutions should be tangible, scalable and possible to realize in 2-4 years – and they should add liveability, smartness and sustainability to the urban spaces in line with the Charter.

One (1) winner of each local competition will receive the possibility to realise their solution in close dialogue with the project owner. Finally, a Nordic jury will select an overall, Nordic winner of the Nordic Built Cities Challenge, which receives 1.200.000 NOK.

What’s in it for you as an urban challenge owner?

  • Direct funding of up to 800.000 NOK for the management and administration of the competition connected to your urban development project.
  • Innovative and multidisciplinary solutios to your urban challenge.
  • Attention and promotion in the Nordic region and beyond.
  • Access to an international network of experts.
  • Benchmarking and knowledge sharing with the other selected projects in the Nordic region.
  • Nordic Innovation grants up to 1.200.000 to four (4) finalists of each local competition for further development of the solutions.

Submit your project and find more information at www.nordicbuiltcities.org.

The deadline for submitting your urban challenge is 20 May 2015.
