New networks over Nordic-German border

"Combining traditions and new networks" is the theme of the annual gatherings organised by the Danish minority in South Schleswig, Germany, 9-11 June. The Nordic Region plays an active role in networking in the border region. The South Schleswig Association is maintaining the long tradition of staging a series of Danish events in the border area – which is also where Germany meets the Nordic Region. The Nordic Office in Flensburg has been a driving force behind many cultural initiatives since 1997. One of this year's events is an exhibition organised by the South Schleswig Danish Arts Association featuring works by Hansina Iversen (painter), Anker Mortensen (painter) and Marius Olsen (graphic artist), all from the Faroe Islands. The head of the Nordic Office in Flensburg, Anette Jensen, will open the exhibition in the Danish Central Library on 8 June at 19:30.

The President of the Nordic Council, Ole Stavad, will speak at Kiel Week on 19 June. His topic will be demographic changes in Europe and their impact upon the Baltic Sea Region.
