Together the Nordic countries will serve food enthusiasts from all over the world a taste of New Nordic Food, when the world's largest organic trade fair opens on 16 February.

The new Nordic cuisine has drawn attention far beyond our part of the world recently.

In April 2010, NOMA in Copenhagen was chosen as the world's best restaurant by the British Restaurant Magazine, and at the World Championships for chefs in France last month, Rasmus Kofoed from Denmark won the gold medal, and Sweden and Norway ran away with the silver and bronze.

New Nordic Food is built on the principles of simplicity, purity, animal welfare and sustainability. These are elements which also fit perfectly with the guidelines for organic production.

The stories about Nordic food and the special Nordic ingredients are very powerful

The Nordic Council of Ministers supported a Nordic food bar at last year's BioFach and this year there will be a joint Nordic stand for companies from Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway.

"New Nordic Food is helping to brand the Nordic countries and Nordic values around the world in a way that strikes a chord with everyone", says the Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers, Halldór Ásgrimsson, who is delighted with the Nordic visibility at the BioFach trade fair.

"The aim of our joint Nordic effort at the trade fair is to strengthen the international focus that there already is on the Nordic cuisine. The stories about Nordic food and the special Nordic ingredients are very powerful, and we have high expectations that the increased focus on Nordic food will also increase exports of organic goods", says Michael Stevns, Director of the Danish Agriculture & Food Council.

Denmark's Minister of Food, Henrik Høegh, will lead the official opening of the Nordic stand on Wednesday 16 February at 12.00.

BioFach will run from 16 - 19 February in Nürnberg, Germany with over 2500 exhibitors and annual visitor numbers of about 44,000 from 90 countries.

The Nordic stand is organised by Organic Denmark in co-operation with the Danish Agriculture & Food Council with support from the Danish Ministry of Food.

Nordic co-operation on food aims to provide the Region's inhabitants with access to good-quality, healthy and safe foodstuffs that they can trust. The Nordic countries are often characterised by shared attitudes on questions related to food, e.g. which food additives are permissible, the monitoring of food in shops, and how animals are treated while they are raised, in transit and during the production process.
