Two new projects have just been granted funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers from the sustainability development pool. One project will look at gender equality amongst citizens with disabilities and the other will address dissemination of research results through art.

Sustainability is a recurring theme for Nordic co-operation and is high on the agenda in the Nordic Council of Ministers, where all activities and projects must have a sustainability perspective.

However, specific funds are allocated to specific sustainability projects and this year one million DKK has been granted to projects in the categories "Increased diversity in the Nordic Region" and "The Importance of culture in sustainable development in the Nordic Region" - two of the prioritised areas in the Nordic Council of Ministers' sustainability strategy.

Culture, knowledge, gender and minorities

The project "Disability perspective, gender and diversity" under social and gender equality is led by the Nordic Centre for Welfare and Social Issues.

It will contribute to an inclusive society with focus on people with disabilities in relation to gender issues.   In particular, the project will look at issues surrounding violence against disabled citizens but also work with exchange of experience around universal design. The project Konnect in the culture and food sector is led by the Institute for Sustainability Studies at the University of Iceland. The goal here is to bring artists and researchers together to create new methods to share research results on sustainability with politicians and the general public.

The project will help to promote understanding of the major environmental challenges we are facing, especially as a consequence of climate change. Read more on Konnect.
