When the new Swedish government assumed office, it appointed a new Minister for Nordic Co-operation, Kristina Persson (S). Persson is a true Nordic citizen, and has been the Chairperson for the Nordic Association in Sweden 2007-2012.

The new Minister for Nordic Co-operation looks at the Nordic Region with a global perspective. She has spoken for even closer political Nordic co-operation and has, for example, put forward that Nordic unity could go well ahead of the European integration process, but also contribute to it by being a role model.

"We have a close network of relations between individuals, associations, businesses, authorities and politicians. This has contributed to our region being one of the most successful in the world".

As a minister in the Swedish government, Kristina Persson is responsible for strategic and future issues as well as Nordic co-operation.

She is the founder of the think tank Global Challenge, which focuses on influencing public opinion to improve the conditions for an economic, social and environmentally sustainable development in Sweden and globally.

Previously Persson has been a County Governor and Deputy Governor of the Swedish Central Bank. She was a Member of Parliament in 1991 and 1993-1995, and Member of the European Parliament for nine months in 1995.
