NGO partnership? Apply for Nordic funding!

Each spring, the Nordic Council of Ministers accepts applications for project funding from its NGO programme. One of the stipulations is that at least three NGOs must be involved, at least one from a Nordic country, one from Russia or Belarus and one from Poland or the Baltic states.

Application deadline is 11 April 2011.

Projects also have to be relevant to Russia or Belarus, but otherwise it is completely up to the applicants to specify the nature of the projects. No exact limit is set on the funding but in 2009 grants tended to be in the range DKK 400,000-500,000.

Applicants must be democratic, voluntary NGOs and the projects must be designed to extend their work in North-West Russia and Belarus.

The Nordic Council of Ministers originally launched the NGO programme in 2006 to promote partnerships between Nordic, Baltic, Polish, Belarus and Russian NGOs. More than 50 projects have received funds totalling over DKK 30 million for projects in spheres such as the environment, care of children and other vulnerable groups and democratisation.

NGOs play a prominent role in the Council of Ministers’ work with the Baltic States and North-West Russia in a number of priority areas, e.g. democratisation and the environment.
