Nominations for the Nordic Council Music Prize 2014

The 11 works nominated for the Nordic Council Music Prize 2014 were announced at the opening of the SPOT Festival in Århus on 1 May, where last year's winner, the Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto, played a jam session with the Faroese composer Teitur.

The theme for this year is a composition with a clear structure and form as well as elements created during the performance. The work must be of the highest artistic standard and original for its genre.


The nominated works are:

Denmark

Jong” by Lotta Wennäkoski

 “Eerik XIV” by Mikko Heiniö & Juha Siltanen

The Faroe Islands

Barbara” by Tróndur Bogason

Iceland

Solar5: Journey to the Center of Sound” by Hugi Guðmundsson, Hilmar Jensson, Sverrir Guðjónsson, Matthias Hemstock and with interactive visuals by Joshue Ott.

Undir tekur yfir” by Hildur Gudnaðóttir  

Norway

Constructing Jungle Books” by Øyvind Torvund

Lion” by Marius Neset

Sweden

Frames in transit” by Jesper Nordin

Ice Concerto” by Fredrik Högberg

The winner will be announced and awarded at a prize ceremony in Stockholm on 29 October in conjunction with the Nordic Council Session.
