Nordic Climate Solutions lead the way to new climate agreement

Nordic solutions for sustainable climate development are of major importance in the fight against global climate changes. During a two day conference on 8 and 9 September 2009 a large number of climate solutions will be demonstrated when thousands of business people and politicians gather at Nordic Climate Solutions in the exhibition centre Bella Center in Copenhagen, Denmark.

"The Nordic countries are a leader in modern climate solutions and Nordic Climate Solutions is an excellent arena to demonstrate and profile Nordic strengths in both top-level research and energy technologies. It is therefore gratifying that the conference will showcase the major Nordic venture, the Top-Level Research Initiative (TFI)”, said the Secretary General for the Nordic Council of Ministers, Halldór Ásgmsson.

Denmark’s Prime Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, will give the opening speech on 8 September. Halldór Ásgrímsson will close Nordic Climate Solutions on 9 September by accounting for some of the tangible projects that the Nordic countries are working on together to face the global climate challenges. In addition, there will be a summary of the wishes of the conference delegates for the upcoming climate agreement, which the countries of world will reach agreement on in Copenhagen in December. Nordic Climate Solutions takes place only a couple of months before the major UN climate summit hosted by Denmark, during the Swedish EU Presidency.

Nordic Climate Solutions is being held under the auspices of the Nordic Council of Ministers in partnership with several Nordic institutions. It is organized for the second consecutive year and will gather thousands of visitors from more than forty countries. Among the other participants worth mentioning are the EU Commissioner, Andris Piebalgs, Denmark’s Minister for Climate and Energy, Connie Hedegaard, members of the European Parliament and directors from the energy and business sectors.

Climate and energy solutions are areas given high priority by the Nordic prime ministers. Amongst other things, the Nordic countries work in partnership with the Nordic Council of Ministers on a number of concrete projects to face up to the challenges posed by globalization.  Nordic Climate Solutions, the Top-Level Research Initiative and Nordic Energy Solutions are among the projects given priority.
