Nordic Council of Ministers awards grants of EUR 150,000 to Baltic media
The projects were granted a total of approximately EUR 50,000 in each of three countries. Five projects were approved in Estonia, nine in Latvia and eight in Lithuania. The Evaluation Committees selected the projects from among 62 proposals submitted by local media publishers and freelance journalists.
“Freedom of speech is a fundamental Nordic value, and independent media are an essential foundation of a well-functioning democracy. This is what the Nordic Council of Ministers is supporting with this project,” says Dagfinn Høybråten, Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers.
Freelance journalists and newsrooms in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia applied for grants of up to EUR 10,000 for projects with a maximum duration of one year.

This is what the Nordic Council of Ministers is supporting with this project.The Baltic media grant scheme of the Nordic Council of Ministers was designed to increase the quality and attractiveness of local media in the Baltic countries. The scheme has a special focus on inclusive content in minority languages and ethnically diverse regions.
The winners were chosen because of their genuine story ideas and innovative multi-platform approaches, presenting multiple promising investigative and visual journalism projects.
All grant recipients begin implementing the projects in autumn 2017, and projects are to be completed by 30 September 2018.
