Nordic MPs are baffled by the refusal of the Danish Minister for Integration, Birthe Rønn Hornbech, to meet face to face to explain the Danish practice of repatriating other Nordic citizens in need of social help.

"One expects ministers to be ready to have a democratic discussion with parliamentarians on common rights in the Nordic countries and how they are interpreted", says Helgi Hjörvar, President of the Nordic Council.

Hjörvar underlines that the Nordic convention must be interpreted in the same in all the countries to ensure equal rights for all Nordic citizens.

The matter will be discussed at the Nordic Council’s Session in Reykjavik 2 - 4 November.
