Nordic focus on safe food in Shanghai
In the Nordic countries you can trust that the food you put on the table is safe to eat. By focusing on food safety the Nordic countries have found solutions to manage and minimise the problems.
The Nordic Ministers for Food will convey this message at a Nordic-Chinese forum on food safety in Shanghai. The ministers stress in a joint article that co-operation and exchange of experiences in food safety are of utmost importance - not least with the increase of world trade because of globalisation.
"By learning from each others’ solutions, but also mistakes, we can ensure that the goods we import and export are safe", write the ministers.
This is the aim of the food safety forum being organised on 30 August during the EXPO in Shanghai. The goal is exchange experiences with representatives for the Chinese authorities and business community which can contribute to safer products.
"Our concept is based on food producers taking a greater responsibility for food safety and the authorities monitoring the companies and, where necessary, making targeted interventions based on scientifically-based risk assessments. We believe that other countries can also benefit from our models", emphasise the ministers.
The Finnish and Danish Ministers for Food, Sirkka-Liisa Anttila and Henrik Høegh, will participate in the event along with other distinguished representatives from China and the Nordic countries. The food safety forum will be co-hosted by the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Chinese General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, AQSIQ.
The Nordic Council of Ministers has also been active in several other events in Shanghai in conjunction with the EXPO exposition.
