Nordic Food at the world's largest organic trade fair

Nordic cuisine is creating an image for itself at the world's largest organic trade fair, Biofach, in Nürnberg, Germany. The Nordic Council of Ministers is co-financing a major Nordic joint venture at BioFach 2010 from 17-20 February. The aim is to give visitors an experience of Nordic food, but also to make contacts and promote exports of the Nordic cuisine.

BioFach annually attracts about 50,000 visitors and 2,500 exhibitors. A total of 47 Nordic businesses are brought together in a joint exhibition area where the main attraction is a Nordic food bar. Three star chefs from Denmark, Finland and Sweden offer the public Nordic dishes made from organic ingredients.

The Nordic Council of Ministers is funding this event with a total of DKK 400,000. In addition to the council of ministers, organisations from Denmark, Finland and Sweden are taking part.

Nordic food is sometimes described as the world's next major cuisine. The Nordic countries have joined forces to promote this development, not least through the Nordic Council of Ministers New Nordic Food programme. The aim of the programme is to make Nordic food more visible and promote the export potential for Nordic businesses.

New Nordic Food was launched in autumn 2006 and the current programme expired at the end of last year. The Nordic governments have decided, however, that the successful programme will continue until 2014.

BioFach is organised under the framework of IFOAM, a global co-operative organisation for organic agricultural and control organisations.
