New Nordic measures for green growth and sustainable welfare are in the pipeline. The Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers, Dagfinn Høybråten, will discuss future co-operation in the Region with the Nordic prime ministers at their summer meeting on 16 May.
"The prime ministers' commitment to the Nordic community in recent years has been crucial for the significant progress we are now seeing in co-operation in the Nordic Region", said Dagfinn Høybråten before the meeting with the prime ministers.
The Nordic prime ministers hold their annual summer meeting in Stockholm on 15-16 May, where they will, amongst other things, discuss green growth and a future-proof Nordic welfare model based on reporting back from the Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers, Dagfinn Høybråten.
"The main focus for the Nordic Council of Ministers in the years to come will be on two of the greatest challenges facing the Nordic countries just now. How do we ensure a welfare system under pressure and how do we develop our economy in a sustainable way?", says Dagfinn Høybråten, before the meeting with the prime ministers.
"The prime ministers' commitment to the Nordic community in recent years has been crucial for the significant progress we are now seeing in co-operation in the Nordic Region. We are developing a sharper and more focused co-operation with activities across the sectors and the individual councils of ministers", added Høybråten.
Amongst the significant measures in recent years are a large number of initiatives to strengthen the Nordic countries in regard to globalisation, including a Nordic top-level research initiative; and a major commitment in a UN context.
Now a number of research and network projects have been launched under the headings of ”Green Growth the Nordic Way” and ”Sustainable Nordic Welfare”.
These deal, for example, with increasing the Nordic home market in the building sector by bringing a number of technical standards into line - a market that works as a springboard for Nordic products on the world market. And it is about developing new welfare solutions together for the Nordic people, for example, in diseases requiring special treatment.
"The mantra is as before, to develop common solutions for the challenges we all face. But we are now focusing on strengthened Nordic synergy through increasingly focused measures in selected areas", concluded Dagfinn Høybråten before the meeting with the prime ministers.
The prime ministerial meeting takes place in Stockholm. On 16 May the prime ministers will take part in a large-scale Nordic labour market meeting with focus on youth unemployment. The Nordic ministers for employment will also take part in this meeting, which will be streamed live on regeringen.se
