The Nordic prime ministers convened in London yesterday, Thursday 4 February, in conjunction with the fourth international donor conference for Syria. This unofficial meeting was called by Finland, which this year holds the presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers.

The main topic of discussion was migration. The prime ministers noted that the situation has changed considerably since they met in Denmark and Iceland in October.

The prime ministers continued to stress the importance of effective co-operation and mutual communication. Just like the ministers for Nordic co-operation, who met in Finland on Wednesday, the prime ministers emphasised the importance of the Nordic countries continuing to share their experiences and learning from one another.

“We had a very useful discussion about the current migration situation The Nordic countries are a family, and we work together closely. The regular exchange of ideas and experiences guarantees that together we can find solutions to the challenges we have in common,” said Finnish Prime Minister, Juha Sipilä.

“Today we discussed successful integration and border matters. It’s important to ensure that current challenges do not hinder our ongoing co-operation in other areas, such as by eliminating border barriers that hamper trade between the countries,” Sipilä continued.
