Nordic studies in Toronto

The Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto in Canada has launched a Nordic studies programme in collaboration with the Nordic Council of Ministers.

The programme will study Nordic solutions to global challenges as well as the significance of co-operation to the peace, stability and prosperity of the Region.

The Nordic Council of Ministers is co-funding the programme via its “Our Neighbours in the West” scheme, which is designed to forge strategic and mutually beneficial partnerships with Canada and the USA.

“Canada and the Nordic Region share many values but we also each have different strengths and have much to learn form each other,” says Dagfinn Høybråten, Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers.

Høybråten thinks it would be interesting for the Canadians to learn about the Nordic model and why the Region ranks so highly on the competencies that will be needed in the future, such as innovation, entrepreneurship and critical thinking.

“And yet North American universities still rank higher than Nordic universities. This is an area in which we still have something to learn,” he adds.
