The Nordic Council of Ministers’ co-operation with China took a step forwards on Thursday when Secretary General Dagfinn Høybråten met with China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Chao in Beijing to discuss areas in which joint efforts may be of interest.

The Ministers for Nordic Co-operation decided to explore opportunities for co-operation in February last year, and the Secretary General’s trip forms part of this exploration.

During the meeting, it was agreed that the areas of co-operation that are primarily of interest are innovation, sustainable development, tourism, welfare solutions, and cultural co-operation.

“The meeting was fruitful and our Chinese hosts showed great interest in the material we presented,” said Secretary General Høybråten. He stressed that the Nordic Council of Ministers’ future co-operation projects shall complement, not replace the countries’ existing bilateral partnerships with China.
