At the Nordic Prime Ministers' meeting on October 2nd, Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers Dagfinn Høybråten presented a status report of the Nordic Green Growth initiatives after three years.

Green Growth was named a primary focus area for Nordic cooperation by the Nordic Prime Ministers in November 2011 under the heading "The Nordic region - leading in green growth".

Since then, the Nordic Council of Ministers has granted a total of DKK 66 million to a wide range of initiatives focusing on the green economy. Most of these initiatives are expected to be completed by the end of 2015, while some will continue into 2016

- I am convinced that the programme has helped us to strengthen Nordic skills, improve coordination between the Nordic countries, and brand us internationally as a region where green growth, innovation and sustainable development is a reality – not just a vision for the future.

The overall aim of the green growth initiatives has been to tackle major environmental and climate challenges, while at the same time helping the Nordic countries improve their market positions.

Dagfinn Høybråten stresses that the Green Growth programme has provided a solid platform for further work on green solutions:

- I am convinced that the programme has helped us to strengthen Nordic skills, improve coordination between the Nordic countries, and brand us internationally as a region where green growth, innovation and sustainable development is a reality – not just a vision for the future.
