Lindberg and other members of the NYC's Presidium recently met with the Danish Minister for Nordic Co-operation, Karen Ellemann, to discuss what the Nordic Council of Ministers can and will do to get future generations more involved in Nordic co-operation. This year Denmark holds the Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers, the official co-operative body of the Nordic governments.

"Interest in Nordic co-operation with grow through involvment and personal experience. It is therefore important to promote the opportunities, particularly for school classes, to take part in various exchange programmes", emphasised Minna Lindberg from Finland.

The NYC believes that the best way to reach young people is through the schools, and therefore pupils in schools and other phases of education (secondary and vocational schools) should actively be in contact with their peers in the other Nordic countries and autonomous territories.

"To make sure that the next generation will also be interested in Nordic co-operation we must all make a joint effort to present the Nordic community to school pupils", concluded Lindberg after her meeting with Karen Ellemann on Nordic Day, 23 March.

The Nordic Youth Council approved a resolution on the same topic at their Session in Stockholm in October 2009.
