The Russian authorities conducted a control visit to the Nordic Council of Ministers' Information Office in Kaliningrad on Wednesday.

Apr 25, 2013

The Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers, Dagfinn Høybråten, objects to the Russian control visit to the Council of Ministers' Information Office in Kaliningrad.

In response to the Russian authorities' control visit to the Council of Ministers' Information Office, the Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers said:

"In a democratic society it is crucial that individuals and non-governmental organisations are able to work freely and without fear of misplaced interference and control. The Nordic Council of Ministers therefore objects to the Russian authorities' control visit to the Nordic Council of Ministers' Information Office in Kaliningrad yesterday", says Dagfinn Høybråten, Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers.

The Information Office in Kaliningrad is part of the Nordic Council of Ministers Secretariat and acts, in agreement with the Russian authorities, as an Info Point for co-operation between partners from the Kaliningrad Region and the Nordic countries.

"The Nordic Council of Ministers therefore deeply regrets yesterday's control visit, which must be considered as disruptive to the otherwise good co-operation between the Nordic Council of Ministers and Russia", says Dagfinn Høybråten. The Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers will take this specific case up with the Russian authorities very soon.
