Ecolabelling deals with finding the best products from an environmental perspective. But the Nordic Ecolabel now takes one step further to encourage consumers to be aware of all aspects of sustainable consumption.

One means to do so is the launch of a new art contest, Nordic Art Insight, with a first prize of 100,000 SEK.

- One of our main challenges today is how to achieve a sustainable level of consumption which considers both climate goals as well as a fair distribution of our planet’s resources Since we miss the voice of artists in today’s sustainability debate, we challenge them to enter our competition. An art piece often says more than a thousand words, says Ragnar Unge, CEO of Ecolabelling Sweden.

Apart from creating a piece of art, the artist must also describe how the artwork has been produced from an environmental perspective, so to speak, to be eligible as a contestant. The whole life-cycle of the art piece is to be described, i.e. raw materials used in the process, recycling etc., in the same way as the criteria for the Nordic Ecolabel have a life cycle perspective.

Art students over the age of 18 as well as professional artists with a place of residence in one of the five Nordic countries are invited to enter the Nordic Art Insight competition.

Entries are to be sent in between March 15th and May 31st. The winner will be presented at the Nordic Council of Minister’s sustainability conference “Medskapandets konst”, in Umeå in September.
