Registration is now open for the fifth Nordic Conference on Sustainable Development, taking place in Umeå in Sweden in September. It will focus on the art of creating a better society together. But can we even afford that is times of crisis?
The Nordic Council of Ministers took part in last year's major sustainability event, Rio+20. The next major event in the Nordic Region is The Art of Co-creation 2013.
The Nordic Region is the stronghold of sustainability. Think Nordic citizens and politicians. And activists and civil servants from all over the world think so - this is shown by countless global surveys and rankings.
But have we time and money for all that sustainability in the middle of the crisis? And can the Nordic model, with its focus on co-operation and dialogue, survive in a time with confrontations both in the work place and the world market. Have the Nordic countries a special offer on solutions for our shared challenges.
The fifth Nordic Conference on Sustainable Development in Umeå 17-19 September has the title “The Art of Co-creation” and it focuses precisely on sustainability as a common project.
Along the lines of the previous conference in the series, “Solutions. Local. Together”, which took place in Turku, Finland in 2011, the conference takes its starting point in the need for mobilising creative forces locally, without losing sight of the global context.
The themes of the conference are consumption, health and welfare, transport, tourism, town planning and sustainable education and culture.
About 600 delegates from all the Nordic countries and the EU are expected to attend. Registration on medskapande2013.se/
The goal of the conference is to strengthen and develop the local and regional efforts for a more sustainable Nordic Region.
The conference will be hosted by Umeå City Council in co-operation with the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Swedish Ministry of the Environment and the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions.
The conference will held in Swedish, English and Finnish with interpretation between these three languages. Participation fee is SEK 3500 ex VAT.
In conjunction with the conference the winner of the Nordic Ecolabel's competition Nordic Art Insight will be presented. The prize rewards works of art which help to increase awareness of sustainable development.
