What is the future for Nordic consumer policy?
What will the Danish Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers do to develop co-operation in Nordic consumer policies? The Citizens' and Consumer Rights Committee is now posing questions to the Nordic Ministers for Co-operation on the future of Nordic consumer policies.

"The Minister for Co-operation, Bertel Haarder, said at a presentation of the Danish Programme for the Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in the Danish Parliament (Folketinget), that if the informal consumer policy co-operation is not working then formal co-operation in this area must be restored. We would therefore like to know how the informal collaboration has been operating since 2006", said Henrik Dam Kristensen, member of the Citizens' and Consumer Rights Committee and the Social Democratic Group in the Nordic Council.
The Council of Ministers for Consumer Policy was disbanded in 2006. The business community and the consumer organisations both support re-establishing official co-operation. Representatives from Danish Industry and Danish and European consumer organisations attended the committee's consumer seminar in Copenhagen on Wednesday 27 January.
"We need official Nordic co-operation on consumer policy once again between organizations, authorities and ministries to co-ordinate EU work on consumer policy at all times in the process both before and during implementation," said Benedicte Federspiel from the Danish Consumer Council.
The Citizens’ and Consumer Rights Committee in the Nordic Council has been working for some time to put consumer policies on the Nordic agenda. The consumer seminar took place in conjunction with the Nordic Council's January meetings in Copenhagen.
