Winner of Nordic Council Environment Prize announced May 22

The prize of 350.000 DKK (app. 50.000 Euro) will go to a person, company, or organisation that has worked to boost biological diversity in their own local area or internationally.

The theme for the Nordic Council Environment Prize 2012 is biodiversity and the winner will be announced on the International Day for Biological Diversity, May 22nd.

Representatives of the Nordic Environment Ministers select the winner. The theme of the prize varies from year to year.

Eleven candidates have been nominated:

The Nordic Council Environment Prize is one of four prizes given by the Nordic countries to outstanding achievements within the arts or within the area of environmental policy.

Nordic Way at Rio+20

At Rio+20 in June, the Nordic Council of Ministers will also focus on biodiversity. 

One of the themes dealt with in Rio by the NCM will be the economics of ecosystems services, or  in other words: the value of nature for present and future generations.
