Women “rebel from the stomach”
Top chefs are usually men but women tend to be responsible for the less visible everyday cooking in homes and canteens. Camilla Plum and Katrine Klinken have launched an initiative calling on women to “rebel from the stomach”, form a new movement and network to encourage the availability of good organic raw ingredients to the general public and help people understand what constitutes good food.
At the seminar they organised on International Women´s Day the pair also stressed the importance of seeing everyday food in the context of quality, responsibility, democracy and participation. 600 women attended the seminar and discussed ecology, health and biological diversity.
Representatives of the Nordic Gene Bank and the Nordic Gene Bank Farm Animals talked about biodiversity and the Nordic Council of Ministers Advisor, Lise Lykke Steffensen, talked about conscious choice and good quality in our everyday food and explained the importance of the genetic background of the products. She added that actively using the inherent diversity of Nordic genetic resources – both as producers and as consumers – is the best way to preserve biodiversity.
