Vinnare av Nordiska rådets priser 2019

Jonas Eika, Kristin Roskifte, May el-Toukhy, Maren Louise Käehne, Caroline Blanco, René Ezra, and Gyða Valtýsdóttir received the 2019 Nordic Council Prizes at an awards ceremony broadcast live from the Stockholm Concern Hall on Tuesday evening. Greta Thunberg chose not to accept the prize in protest against the lack of climate action.

Nordic Council Literature Prize

Danish author Jonas Eika has won the 2019 Nordic Council Literature Prize for the collection of short stories Efter Solen (Basilisk, 2018).  Eika has won the prize for a work that reminds us exactly why literature can do so much more than just mirror what we already know.

Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize

The 2019 Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize has been won by the picture book Alle sammen teller by Kristin Roskifte from Norway. Roskifte has won the prize for a work that is different and unique for its genre.

Nordic Council Film Prize

The film Queen of Hearts (Dronningen) by Danish screenwriter and director May el-Toukhy, screenwriter Maren Louise Käehne, and producers Caroline Blanco and René Ezrahas has won the 2019 Nordic Council Film Prize for a film that explores the making of a tragic family secret step-by-step, as the consequences of hubris, lust, and lies conspire to create an unimaginable dilemma.

Nordic Council Music Prize

Icelandic performer and multi-instrumentalist Gyða Valtýsdóttir has won the 2019 Nordic Council Music Prize for her distinctive vocals, instrumental inventiveness, and highly personal charm underline a dignified craftsmanship.

Nordic Council Environment Prize

Greta Thunberg was awarded the Nordic Council Environment Prize but chose not to accept the award in protest against a lack of climate action.

About the Nordic Council prizes

The Nordic Council awards five prizes each year – for literature, film, music, the environment, and children’s and young people’s literature. Each prize of DKK 350,000 is awarded at a gala event during the annual Session of the Nordic Council.
