TEG call for funding applications for 2019 – sustainable outdoor life and threats to biodiversity

TEG is now accepting applications for funding for Nordic environmental and cultural heritage projects. The priorities for 2019 are sustainable outdoor life and nature tourism, threats to biodiversity in the Nordic Region, in particular from invasive species, and outbreaks of disease in land-based and freshwater species. The deadline for applications is 18 June 2018.

Priorities 2019

Projects must help achieve the targets set under theme 3.2 Outdoor recreation, landscape and cultural environment, in the Environmental Action Plan 2013–2018.

Sustainable outdoor life

In 2019, TEG will fund projects that address the impact of nature tourism and outdoor life on biodiversity and on precious natural and cultural environments.

Projects must promote more sustainable uses of natural and cultural environments and present tangible proposals for solutions and tools to limit the negative effects of nature tourism and outdoor life on the environment in the Nordic Region. TEG would like projects to be based on established approaches, e.g. recreational carrying capacity and limits of acceptable change (LAC).
Projects may focus on:

  • increased numbers and different types of visitors and the wear and tear they cause
  • increased disruption of flora och fauna
  • off-road vehicles (mountain bikes, quad-bikes, snow scooters, etc)
  • social sustainability (crowding, the rights of local and indigenous populations).

Threats to biodiversity

In 2019, TEG will prioritise projects that address the issue of invasive species and outbreaks of disease in land-based and freshwater species that threaten biodiversity in the Nordic Region. Projects may address and provide tools and methods to deal with:

  • reducing and stopping the spread of contagions between geographical areas and species
  • hindering the establishment and reducing the prevalence of invasive alien species
  • increasing levels of preparedness and spreading knowledge within official agencies
  • stimulating Nordic initiatives.
