Calls and funding schemes

The Council of Ministers for Labour and the Work Environment (MR-A) have funds at their disposal every year to be used for supporting Nordic projects within the area of the work environment. The projects may be analyses, conferences, theme meetings and so on, which help to strengthen co-operation between the Nordic countries with a view to learning from each other in this field.

These project funds are administered by three permanent committees under the Committee of Senior Officials for Labour; the Labour Market Committee, the Working Environment Committee and the Industrial Relations Committee.

For a project to be considered for funding, the project application must clearly indicate the Nordic advantage in the project, i.e. if there is added value and if there are synergistic effects to be had from conducting a project within a Nordic framework rather than a national or bi-lateral one.

In addition, the applicant must make clear that the project's goals coincide to the greatest possible extent with the priority themes and strategic goals in MR-A's Co-operation Programme 2009-2012 and the permanent committees priorities for each year.

Application forms can be found on the individual committees' web pages.

Grants from the Nordic Council of Ministers' Industrial Relations Committee
This funding is primarily designated for investigative studies and seminars on topical political subjects with a Nordic aim. The most important funding criterion is that the projects benefit the Nordic countries and the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Åland, and generate Nordic synergies.
Grants from the Nordic Council of Ministers' Labour Market Committee
Project funding from the Labour Market Committee is directed at Nordic projects that deal with working life. The projects can, for example, include analyses, conferences or theme meetings, which help improve co-operation between the Nordic countries with reference to mutual exchange of experiences in the sector. The projects funded by the Labour Market Committee must have a Nordic aim and involve at least three Nordic countries. The Committee also looks favourably on applications that include the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Åland.
Grants from the Nordic Council of Ministers' Working Environment Committee
The Committee funds projects that focus on closer co-operation on the working environment between the Nordic countries. Key issues include how workplaces can improve their physical, psychological and social conditions; use staff resources in an effective and sustainable manner; promote gender equality and non-discrimination; and further develop the Nordic Region as an attractive place to work.
