Public-Private Partnerships to solve the climate crisis

More cooperation between government and business is the only road ahead to save the climate, according to former UN Climate Chief Yvo de Boer. He spoke at a Nordic Council seminar in Oslo on January 24, where he urged the Nordic countries to take the lead towards a global climate solution.

The report "Nordic Public Sector Cloud Computing - A discussion paper" focuses on the benefits of the cloud to the public sector. Published by the Nordic Council of Ministers' informal forum for IT directors, the report also suggests ways of reaping those benefits.
Tax agreement with Uruguay

On Wednesday 14 December Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Iceland as well as Greenland and the Faroe Islands, signed an information-exchange agreement with Uruguay. The agreement is part of the Nordic countries' joint endeavour to put a stop to tax evasion and is the continuation of a project in the formal framework of the Nordic Council of Ministers.

The Nordic Council of Ministers has just initiated a joint venture with the United Nations Environment Programme, where Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay may set up a new ecolabel inspired by the Nordic countries.

The Nordic Environment Financing Corporation (NEFCO) and the Foreign Economic Cooperation Office of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China have signed a Framework Agreement to establish environmental cooperation together with the China Development Bank Corporation.

The Scandic hotel chain has won the Nordic Council Environment Prize 2011. The chain's Norwegian Director, Svein-Arild Steen-Mevold, accepted the prize in Copenhagen on 2 November at an award ceremony during the Nordic Council Session.

The prime ministers have commissioned the ministerial councils to develop a number of tangible areas in which the Nordic countries can work together to generate growth and prosperity. The Nordic Region has the potential and the political will to lead the way in dynamic green business growth and sustainable solutions. The prime ministers' proposal prioritises Nordic test centres for green solutions; education, training and research for green growth; flexible consumption of electricity; green-technology norms and standards; green procurement in the public sector; techniques and methods for waste treatment; the integration of environmental and climate considerations into development aid, and funding for green investment and companies.

Albertslund in Denmark wins competition for Nordic Energy Municipality 2011

The winner of the prestigious competition, Nordic Energy Municipality 2011, was decided today. Finland's prime minister, Jyrki Katainen, announced the winner at an event in the Danish Architecture Centre in Copenhagen. Albertslund in Denmark won the competition, but both Drammen in Norway and Lidköping in Sweden were recognised for their efforts. The competition is part of the Nordic investment in green growth.
