The Globalisation Initiative - Welfare and Health
The Nordic Ministers for Co-operation (MR-SAM) decided on 15 October 2009 to start up a number of globalisation initiatives during 2010, including the globalisation initiative for health and welfare. The globalisation initiative for the health and welfare sector is a comprehensive programme, which is to be a strong incentive in Nordic co-operation in the area of health and welfare. This is a three-year programme and consists of seven independent sub-projects. Six councils of ministers - the Nordic Council of Ministers for Working Life (MR-A), the Nordic Council of Ministers for Business, Energy & Regional Policy (MR-NER), the Nordic Council of Ministers for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Agriculture, Food and Forestry (MR-FJLS), the Nordic Council of Ministers for Gender Equality (MR-JÄM), the Nordic Council of Ministers for Health and Social Affairs (MR-S), and the Nordic Council of Ministers for Education & Research (MR-U) - are involved in the programme.
Purpose
The programme covers the Nordic welfare model of sustainability and competitiveness by focusing on key Nordic welfare challenges. Through cross-sectoral co-operation, the countries will develop effective solutions in selected areas of health and welfare, and thus create synergy and add Nordic value.
The programme is based on two main themes, which will mutually reinforce each other: (1) Welfare – development in general and development of skills in the workforce, as well as inclusion, and (2) Health – promote a healthy, able-bodied population and quality of life. The programme consists of seven independent sub-projects under these two main themes.
Period
The programme will be implemented in 2010-2012.
Budget information
The indicative planning budget is DKK 37.5 million.
